Three Years: Our Love Story

Hard to believe that something that started as an online relationship turned into something that would change my life, and make me a better woman! I’m thankful for each day, each moment I have with this man! I’ll tell the story, starting with ‘once upon a time’.

Mark was searching for love online, and he stumbled upon my dating profile. He became intrigued, and messaged me, expecting  me to ignore his message. I responded to him after looking at his profile, as I too was intrigued by him. One message back and forth turned into multiple messages, which became text messages, phone calls, and us meeting in person. I don’t remember being ‘just friends’ with him, as it was love at first sight, boy meets girl. What I thought was gonna be my next mistake turned into a solid steady romance.

We of course took things slow, and let things happen on their own. I love to laugh about how my mom ‘had to’ meet him before I could go anywhere in his car, and how he would take me home early to make a great impression on her and my dad. He has always been that way, respecting and honoring my parents. He even wanted to ask my dad (per my request) for my hand in marriage later down the road. (I’ll talk about that part later, but just sit down, as this is going to be a long blog.)

He’s Jewish, so I learned a lot through our relationship about his religion. It did a lot to strengthen my faith, and my love for Jesus. Jesus was a Jewish man who taught as a rabbi to His disciples. Celebrating the Jewish holidays throughout the year added a sparkle to my life, and I became curious, wanting to learn more. I still have the nativity star bracelet Mark gave me for my first Hanukkah.

Two years later,  I was nearing graduation after seven years of college, so I was nervous, and super excited. At the same time, I was afraid of what the real world would be like. I kept reminding myself that God had a plan, and I held onto every ounce of faith I could muster. This faith quieted my soul and trembling heart.

To encourage me during finals week, (or so I thought) Mark took me out to my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant for lunch. We enjoyed our meal. After we ate, he took me to a quiet corner, and presented me a gift. I opened a box with a plaque with the Bible verse Joshua 1:9:

“This is my command- Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord is with you wherever you go.”

The words sang to me so harmoniously at the perfect timing, but that wasn’t the end of the moment.

I looked up at him, and he knelt before me on one knee, ring in hand, and asked me if I would be his bride. I said YES, and we kissed, and hugged for a long time. I thought I was going to melt, I was on top of the world! I held onto this moment for as long as I could.

Another thing we love to laugh about now is how we were going to tell our moms and dads at the same time. The fact that my emotions obviously show on my face,my mother knew right away what happened when I got home, because of my smile, and sparkle in my eye. I couldn’t contain myself!

He and his parents were at my graduation ceremony, and the wedding planning went by like a breeze, and I found myself in my white wedding gown in the honeymoon suite anticipating the wedding. The day was beautiful, and went by so fast. I tell brides now don’t blink, as the day goes by so fast. Slow down, and soak it all in! You’ll have the pictures and memories for the rest of your life.

Don’t blink, three years pass by quickly. I love my husband more than ever, and my love for him grows every day. Hard to believe that even after three years of marriage, we have an eternity in front of us, and we are still holding hands while facing the world together. Two chords are strong (him and me), but three chords (God, him, and me)are even stronger, and will not break. I love you, Mark!
